Fall Do’ins

Fall officially arrived on the 22nd of September and with it, a reminder to all that the year is drawing to a close. This, of course, also includes the Legion Centennial Year. Very shortly town residents may or may not notice that the flags proudly displayed along Main Street all summer, have been taken down and stored away for another long winter. So, the Legion year in review…

Croteau-Coutts Post 24 is proud of the activities that were shared with the community during this Centennial Year. Beginning with the Memorial Day activities in late May, the memorial service at Pine Grove Cemetery and the parade were well attended.

In June, the Post’s Flag Day ceremony and Retirement of Colors at the Veteran’s Memorial near the Middle School grows more impressive each year.

On Independence Day, members of the Post and several town residents met at the old Meeting House site to read the Declaration of Independence. This was the first time that the Post has done this and plans to keep it on the calendar for next year.

In August, the Post sponsored the 9th annual running of the Marlborough Madness 5K Road Race. Again this year, we had over 30 enthusiastic runners! It was a beautiful morning for the race and this year we were able to expand our award categories so that many of the runners received medals, cash, centennial coins and gift certificates. The Post would like to once again thank our generous sponsors and hope we can count on you all again next year. To wrap up the summer, the Post sponsored a centennial picnic at the town pavilion in September. The entire Marlborough community was invited and although turnout was light, everyone who did attend enjoyed the free food and camaraderie. The Post is considering doing this on an annual basis – it’s about community!

In addition to the activities listed above, our Post also recognized three very deserving high school seniors and awarded each of them a $1000.00 scholarship. Earlier in the year, we were able to sponsor two young men in the Department of New Hampshire Boys State Program at St. Anselm College.

On Monday, 11 November, the Post conducted a Veterans Day ceremony/service at the Frost Free Library. The event began at 11AM, the time of the cease fire during World War I in 1918.

One last event coming up is the annual Christmas Tree Lighting which the Post sponsors with the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Lions Club. This will be held at the Marlborough Community House on Sunday, 1 December beginning at 6PM.

Croteau-Coutts Post 24 would like to again thank the entire Marlborough community for your support this past year. This Post has been a vital, active part of our small town for the past 100 years and will strive to remain relevant for many years to come. For more information about the Post,
